Snack time!

I found this cute idea online - creating a ghost sandwich with a cookie cutter.  I don't remember where I found this so please feel free to comment below on who credit belongs to!   I love using my cookie cutters to make sandwiches.  Reilly sadly commented that I rarely actually use my cutters to make cookies!  This is a great way though to make little snacks for a party.
Here we used our skull and cauldron cookie cutters to make a healthy little snack today.  Sandwich is just whole wheat bread with cream cheese and avacado.  Then we took Marble Cheese slices and cut out more shapes.  A fun snack the kids can help out with!

Simply Spooky!

I found this below idea while leafing through a Halloween book at Walmart.  The below recipe uses instant vanilla pudding with green food colouring added.  Then you top it with oreo cookie crumbs.  The faces on the outside are done with a paint brush and melted chocolate.  It inspired me to think up a healthier option that would serve as a refreshment for the party - Mango Mash Jack O' Lantern Smoothies!

Mango Mash Jack O'Lantern Smoothie:
-Peel 3 ripe mangoes, cut into cubes and add to blender
- Add 1.5 cups of peach yogurt, 1.5 cups of milk, 1.5 cups of ice
-Blend on high.
-Pour your orange concoction into plastic cups that you have drawn Jack O'Lantern faces on with a magic marker (permanent is best).  Or you could cut out face shapes from black paper and glue/tape these on.  I found some brown straws that look like pumpkin stems when stuck in and I am using small round jars that I found at the dollar store instead of plastic for our small party.  Also if you want your concoction to be more orange you could add a few drops of orange (or yellow & red) food colouring to the mix.
- Voila!  A simple but cute Jack O'Lantern beverage to serve at your party!

Boo-tiful Mashed Potatoes

This cute idea is from Martha Stewart of course!  I plan to do this for our Halloween night dinner.  Give the kids lots of energy for trick or treating!
Using a pastry bag, you squeeze out the mashed pototoes in a swirl to create the ghosts. You can then use sesame seeds or anise seeds to add eyes.  If you don't have pastry bags then just use a plastic baggie and cut off the corner about a half inch on an angle.  Fill the baggie with the whipped potatoes and squeeze through the corner hole moving in a circle.  A yummy halloween side!

New Thanskgiving Day Set

We have a new set up for Thanksgiving and I was very excited to work with the cute creations of Lisa from sushiluna.  Add a little magic to your cake or cupcakes with her awesome fondant toppers.  She created this set for me:

And here's how I used it:

On top of a cake I actually bought at Walmart for $6 and then "spruced up" with Lisa's fondant toppers.  Much more festive now!

Very cute on top of cupcakes!  The kids will love them!  They are almost too cute to eat.....almost!

Lisa now has this set available in her shop here! You also HAVE to check out her facebook page.  She makes gorgeous cakes! You can find our new Thanksgiving Printable Party kit here.  In the mood for some turkey yet?

Thanksgiving Dinner!

Here's a fun way to host your Thanksgiving dinner. The kids will love it and so will the adults! The invite card can also be used as a reminder card for those of us who have trouble remembering dates!  And the lil ones will love the turkey coloring page (and it will keep them occupied while you're fixin' dinner!).  I also created this kit with teachers in mind (since my hubby is one).  I thought this would be great for Thanksgiving classroom parties. You can find this fun printable kit here.

How to create an awesome party (and not spend very much money)!

The best way to do a party within a budget is to start with a list.  Envision what you want the party to look like and write down the supplies you are going to need.  Now hit the dollar store!  I always start here and sometimes come across something I like better than what I had on my list.  For my Barnyard theme, I had wanted tin pots for the bird's nests, but when I saw the red polka dot boxes I totally changed my mind.  (I also thought they would be great to reuse for Christmas!).  Next you want to hit your Walmart or Target.  Walmart has the cheapest cardstock that I have found.  Also check out their fabric section.  They sell small fabric pieces for a good price.  That is where I found that cowhide fabric.  I always hit Michaels last and take a coupon!  You can usually find coupons on their website.
For the Barnyard theme, I spent under $50 between the Dollar Store, Walmart and Michaels for the following: haybale, candy melts, cow sprinkles, sprinkle set (for chicks), 2 boxes, gingham shelf liner, flower styrofoam, crinkle paper, pretzels sticks, Marshmellows, cowhide fabric, lollipop sticks, milk duds (for milk carton treat boxes), Smartfood, cardstock.
Covered:
Decorations
Snack Table
Goodie Boxes (for kids to take home)
Check out our Party Ideas page for some fun ways to decorate your Barnyard Bash.  Feel free to share your ideas.  I'd love to hear them!

Lil Cowboy

Here is one of our latest kits - perfect for any Lil Cowboy.   The set features 70+ pages of Rootin' Tootin' Party Fun!  Extras include a Pin the Tail on the Pony and Wanted Posters that you can personalize or add your own pic for the birthday boy or girl.  Another fun idea would be to create a wanted poster for each child attending the party.

Reilly and I are inspired to try to make some white-chocolate dipped pretzels with red & blue sprinkles to match.  I'll share a pic next week.  In the meantime, you can check out our freebies page for a Cowboy Colour Page.  This is also included in the Party Kit along with a Cowgirl colour page.

Yippeee Yaiii Yeeaahhh!  Have a great weekend!

T-shirt Iron On Party Idea

T-Shirt Iron On

A fun and easy idea to help the birthday boy or girl celebrate their day is to create an iron-on for them to wear. Iron on transfer paper can be purchased at Walmart or any office supply store and you can get 12 sheets from anywhere between $9-12. You can also purchase online from Avery.

Here are the other tools you are going to need:
- Iron (obviously!). Set it on highest setting with no steam.
-T-shirt (white is best)
-Ruler
-Printer
-Printer Ink

Select the image you want to put on your t-shirt. In our kits we have 6" t-shirt stickers that would be perfect for this. In many of our Editable Text Kits you can also add your own text to the 6" circle (like I did in the below pic). However, you can use any image that you want. When you go to print your iron on you are going to want to select mirror print or reverse print so that the iron on isn't backwards once you apply it. Do a test print first to make sure everything looks good and to ensure your ink levels are okay before you print on your iron on transfer paper. Once you have printed on the transfer paper, cut around your image. Press your t-shirt so that there are no wrinkles. Place the iron on face down where you want to apply it. This is where the ruler comes in handy. I always measure over from the side seam to make sure I have it in the middle. Once you have your iron on where you want it, place your hot iron in the middle and then move in slow circles over the back of the iron on. I usually do this for about 2-3 minutes and you will probably see the iron on back start to pull away from the t-shirt. Gently pull the remaining backing away from the t-shirt. Voila! Their very own special birthday tee!
